Are you a Windows PC user and are you finding Avast Premium Security for your Windows PC? I think you’re in the right place!
Avast Premium Security is an antivirus software known for its combination of advanced anti-virus technologies and methods. This antivirus software developer has dedicated all their antivirus knowledge to create the best antivirus software. Anti-virus software combines all technologies and advanced methods to ensure maximum computer security. This product is compatible with all Windows operating systems.
Avast Premium Security is an improved version of Avast Internet Security: machine file folding, automatic software updates, and program updates. Avast Premium Security includes Tuesday installation software, an enhanced scanning network, protection against phishing sites and phishing, and the most secure browser for online shopping and banking, with no recovery of confidential information, absolute security, and no ads.
Overview of Avast Premium Security
Avast Premier’s multifaceted security approach keeps you safer than ever. Look at all the layers between the malware and your computer.
It blocks all webcam hacks and stops ransomware before it starts, so it protects your computer, home network, and passwords from second-to-second threats with intelligent cloud-based detection. It automatically updates your apps and permanently deletes your data when you tell it to. That’s why you’ve never seen this kind of protection before.
Features of Avast Premium Security
Robust Firewall
What do you get when you upgrade your free antivirus to a full security suite? For starters, the suite adds a powerful two-way firewall component. This is the heart of most antivirus and personal firewall suites. To test the firewall, I use a physical computer configured to connect through the router’s DMZ port, which connects it directly to the Internet. When I tested the test system with port scans and other web-based tests, it correctly placed all ports in stealth mode, so outside attackers couldn’t see them. Considering that only Windows Firewall can do this, it’s not that impressive. The product is only relevant if it can’t do what the built-in firewall can do.
Another important job of a personal firewall is to prevent applications from abusing access to your network and Internet connection. Norton and Kaspersky’s firewall components set permissions for known apps, watch for unknown apps and make their own security decisions. I agree; relying on users to make critical security decisions is a bad idea. Other firewalls handle unknowns differently. For example, Panda Dome Complete allows outbound connections but blocks unwanted inbound connections.
Sensitive Data Shield
In theory, Avast’s tool and intrusion malware scan should kill data-stealing Trojans (along with other malware) before they can do their dirty work. Data privacy protection features allow such Trojans to remain active for some time before being caught without finding the data to steal. You can quickly start scanning for exposed personal information.
I don’t store real personal data on my test computer, but for this test I copied hundreds of real things from my documents folder. Avast 17 was found to be vulnerable and was marked as a working file (which it wasn’t). When I clicked to protect these files it reported “Your documents are safe in their current location”.
Full-Fledged Data Shredder
In real life, if you accidentally drop an important document, you can get it back in the trash (or, worst case, dumpster diving). The dear Windows Recycle Bin gives you the same power to rescue discarded digital documents. Your recycled files are still available until they age or you empty the Recycle Bin. However, if your goal is to truly and permanently delete a file, the Recycle Bin can get in the way.
Deleting a file without sending it to the trash is not difficult; Pressing the Shift key while selecting the Delete button will bypass the Recycle Bin. However, there is no data loss. It stays in a data cluster that resides permanently on your hard drive; it’s just that those clusters are marked as reusable. Forensic recovery software can recover that incriminating letter or secret spreadsheet you thought was lost forever.
Other Suite-Specific Features
While browsing the Security and Privacy pages, you’ll see several features unlocked by upgrading your free antivirus to this package. Running a real site is hard. It is designed to protect against phishing scams and DNS hijacking attacks. This type of attack hijacks DNS servers that translate human-readable domains like PCMag.com into machine-friendly IP addresses. In fact, it creates undetected phishing sites.
Antivirus researchers simply cannot read the encrypted code of suspected malware. They should really run the shadow file and see what it does, but it won’t do any harm. Their solution is to run the file in a sandboxed virtual environment that allows the virus to run in a virtual environment but prevents permanent changes to the file system or Registry. You can run this package by dragging and dropping files into the Sandbox. The settings allow you to choose whether applications stored in the sandbox can access the Internet and whether downloaded files are stored in the sandbox.
Protection for Macs
Your Avast subscription gives you 10 licenses to use to install protection on Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS devices. Avast Premium Security (for Mac) doesn’t give you as many features as the Windows version, but if you have enough licenses, you can install it.
I reviewed the macOS product separately. If you’re planning to install Avast on your Mac, read this review. In short, two labs that evaluate Mac products vouch for Avast’s antivirus capabilities. Full Scan is a fast, simplified version of Wi-Fi Inspector that notifies you of intruders. Its anti-phishing protection has been tested to be effective. Like the Windows version, Ransomware Shield prevents unauthorized modification of protected files. Don’t panic if your other devices have expired licenses. Free Avast Security (for Mac) has almost all the features found in the premium version. Ransomware Shield is not available in the free version, and Wi-Fi Inspector does not offer notifications about new devices. About this.
Two-Fisted VPN
As mentioned above, this app has VPN protection. Just click the connect button and connect to the most suitable server. You can also choose from over 60 server city locations, including Gotham City, USA. (The IP geography indicates that Gotham City is New York. Probably a Batman fan among the developers).
Many security suites offer a VPN component with significant limitations. For example, they will choose the server they want or disable the bandwidth limit or both. I found no such limitation in Avast’s VPN component. The menu shows that Avast SecureLine VPN is not installed. I installed it to see what would happen. Like other platforms, this app offers a one-week trial, after which you need to sign up. I can’t imagine why you would do this on an Android device with Avast Premium Security installed.
Webcam protection
Your webcam is off-limits to the office, so it’s great for meetings and letting grandma video chat with her kids. But some malicious software can hack the webcam and force it to capture video and audio of your activity, usually without the flashing light that warns you that the webcam is active. Don’t worry; Avast has a simple plan to protect you from webcam spyware.
By default, in Smart mode, Webcam Shield allows known and trusted apps to use the webcam, but asks you for permission before unknown apps can view the camera. Strictly speaking, even trusted apps can’t use the webcam unless you’ve verified that you’re authorized. If you choose not to show mercy, Avast disables the webcam completely. ESET Internet Security includes webcam protection as an extension to the Device Control system, which offers options similar to Avast. Bitdefender and Kaspersky offer webcam protection, as do ESET and Avast.
Final Words
Avast Premium Security is a strong choice for users looking for enhanced protection, especially for those who do online transactions or frequently download files. This is especially important for users who value antivirus and firewall protection over identity and privacy features. For those who need comprehensive protection, including VPN and password management, it may be worth considering additional solutions or packages from Avast or other providers.
